Wigan Diggers Festival this Saturday!

This weekend we’re very excited to have been invited to the Wigan Diggers’ Festival.

The festival celebrates the life and mission of Gerrard Winstanley and the Diggers or ‘True Levellers’, who objected to land being owned only by the rich. In 1649 they took over common land and began cultivating it and distributing the crops without charge to their followers. The group were also said to advocate equality between men and women, pretty radical for those days!
The Diggers’ history is particularly apt for us, as Gerrard Winstaney was apparently a textile trader before he became bankrupt in 1643.

in the beginning of time God made the earth. Not one word was spoken at the beginning that one branch of mankind should rule over another, but selfish imaginations did set up one man to teach and rule over another.

So, history lesson over. We’ll be at the festival this coming Saturday running workshops similar to those we did at Shambala (click here for pics), so come and find our gazebo to jazz up your festival outfits in minutes!

We’ll be there from 11am – 3pm, helping you make glitzy moustaches, bow ties, hair accessories and brooches, all from reclaimed textiles.

You can read more about the event on the website or the Facebook group.

See you there! x
